”Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” seems to be the running theme in my spirit lately.  Age truly holds no weight when it comes to this walk of faith.  However, most children and young teens believe that their too young to serve the Lord…..  Well I’m here to cancel the power of those words or that myth.  You are not too young to have a relationship with God.  If the truth be told, mostly all of God’s prophets in the bible accepted God’s calling at an early age.  Daniel, Joseph, David, Mary, Samuel, and Jeremiah, just to name a few, were all teenagers.  Josiah, the youngest of them all, was reigned king of Judah at the age of eight.  2 Kings 22: 2 says, “Josiah did what was right in the sight of the Lord….he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left (which means he never wavered in his faith, not even at the age of eight).”  As some of you still may think you’re too young to live a life for God, Jeremiah made the same argument to God.  In Jeremiah 1: 4-8, God tells Jeremiah that He formed, sanctified, and ordained him to be a prophet to the nations of Israel.  Jeremiah’s response in verse 6 was, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am youth.”  In verse 7 God responds by saying, “Do not say, ‘I am youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak,  Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.”  What powerful verses of scripture!  I believe the Lord is saying the same things to you, our youth.  Our youth are our modern day Jeremiahs. If God is calling you to live a life for Him, then don’t be afraid of what your peers may think because God is with you.  God commands you to speak truth and life to those who don’t know Him, go and make your faith known!  Truth is, it may not always be the popular decision or the easiest decision, but it will always be the right decision.  Something to always keep in mind is that majority’s validation will not always affirm God’s word; God’s word stands alone and doesn’t need validation from anyone.  Our greatest and most perfect example of God’s word manifested is through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who as early as the age of 12 was always found in the temples studying God’s word.  Philippians 2: 5-8 tells us to take on the mind of Christ, who being in the form of God and in the appearance of man humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death.  What a wonderful example and an amazing sacrifice!  The best part is, God doesn’t even require that much.  Since Christ already did the impossible, all we have to do is live for Him.  So if Jesus can live for God by the age of 12, shouldn’t we?  Absolutely! Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”  If you notice, that scripture doesn’t say, “Once you become an adult.”  In fact Jesus instructs us adults in Matthew 18: 3-4 to become child-like and humble ourselves as little children, who are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  So if Jesus says that children are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, then that means you, our youth are most important to God.  Start acting like it!

Da Truth says it best in Track 7 of his latest album Open Book, “Let’s Pray… Age ain’t nothing but a number, when I see the young ones amongst us, I pray that they hunger, for God while the sun’s up, while it’s still summer, time before it’s winter time, I pray that they would come, before they reach old age, and they could take a fall and their knees won’t break…..yea, where my daylight soldiers? Teenage frame, with a faith like grown-ups, play time’s over, the weight on my shoulders, comes from the young that say I’ll wait till I’m older…yea, but why wait till you 35? You can be mature for your age in the word of God, faith can be certified…. you can be 13 going on 39.”

Now I challenge the adults, in order for our youth to be mature in the word of God, they need modern day examples of how to live a life for Christ from us, the adults.  “Yea, they say a child shall lead ‘em, who gone train ‘em?, who gone teach ‘em? Show ‘em how to stand like Daniel and his three friendz?....You know it’s gotta be us, talkin’ bout you and I, all of the adultz…..You know it’s up to us to show the young how to walk,” Da Truth says is best again, Track 7, Open Book.….It is truly up to us to show the young how to walk, and so I address the adults…live in such a way that you are setting good examples for our youth to follow!
